Dechen Lama-Luna, Owner

Dechen Designs was launched in 2004 to bring the magic of the Himalayas to the United States through the high quality arts & crafts of Nepal. Owner, Dechen Lama-Luna was born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal and lives in Pleasant Hill, California. She has a passion for elegance and believes "how you look tells the world how you feel". Her vision is to inspire and be inspired as she builds a strong relationship based family business that supports fair and ethnically traded products.

Being a busy mom and an entrepreneur (mom-preneur) herself, Dechen realizes that time is a commodity and has specialized in creating "effortless elegance" for busy women with her line of highly collectible accessories -- exquisite Himalayan Cashmere (Pashmina) Shawls, Handpainted Silk Scarves and Silver Jewelry that can transform any outfit into an elegant expression.

Dechen came to the United States in 1990 for higher education. A few years later, she became the first woman from Solukhumbu, (a Sherpa Village in Nepal) to earn a Masters from an American University graduating with a BS in Marketing and an MBA from Seattle University. Later she worked in various industry positions such as the International Business Manager for Hexcel Corporation.

Dechen has always been passionate about cross cultural communication. As a young girl growing up in Nepal, she learned Spanish, Japanese and Hindi and immensely enjoys her multilingual skill.

In 2006, Dechen was featured in the "Business Section" of The Contra Costa Times, "Where We Live" section of The Times and in Black Diamond Living Magazine. She values and carries with her the rich culture and beauty of Nepal and considers it a privilege to share it with others through her elegant line of fashion accessories. Dechen Designs is an active member of The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and The Entrepreneur's Club of Lafayette.
